Malcolm Gordge has been awarded the 2022 Fairfield Electric Cooperative ‘Who Powers You Hero’ award in recognition of his dedication and service to the local community. The cooperative solicited nominations this summer to identify individuals who are making a difference by serving others in their community.

Gordge was nominated for his dedicated service to Camp Discovery, a 501©3 nonprofit environmental education agency in Blythewood. Gordge serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees. He is at the camp daily and assists with all programs and events at Camp Discovery. Gordge ensures that the property is safe and clean for all students, families, and community members. One of his projects at Camp Discovery was a hand built creek entry board for children so that they could safely explore the creek. Gordge mentors the children – teaching them life skills as well as engineering skills he learned during his time at trade school.

“We find a lot of pleasure and satisfaction working out here. I can’t think of a better place to devote your time and energy to making the lives better for the kids in the area.” Gordge said.

Amy Ellisor, Camp Director nominated Gordge. “Malcolm gives his times and talents freely. He is one of the most positive and generous people I have ever known. Camp Discovery has been strengthened by his talents and love.”

Alongside his work at Camp Discovery, Gordge is a member of his homeowners association, a member of the Town of Blythewood Planning Commission, and is also on the board of the Blythewood Historic Society. His service to the community and his compassion for others is unmatched.
